Donations
I was planning a longer, undoubtedly more rambling post about how I’ve been trying to donate or give away the books I read that don’t resonate with me, and how I’ve tried to use those titles for good in the past, to raise money to protect the rights and the people and the beliefs I hold closest to my heart.
That post will probably come at a later date, but with the news coming via Politico that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights in America——a decision that is not yet in effect, it must be said, so please take care of yourself now, if you already have an appointment or were planning to go very soon——here’s what we’re going to do.
I’m going to show you a list of books I don’t want anymore, for whatever reason. You’re going to pick one and donate the cover price (or however much you’d like) to an abortion fund. I’m going to match that donation and send you the book. Reach out to me via Twitter DM or email (katielizmcguire [at] gmail [dot] com) to let me know your selection and where we’ll be sending our money.
Or you can just donate. I will be.

Here are far more links to other abortion funds and crucial information, all courtesy of @helmsinki on Twitter.
(All links above via a list of abortion funds at The Cut, last updated in December 2021; @helmsinki on Twitter (the “abortion donation fairy”); and @leahbarteldes on Twitter.)
Please note that I have not personally vetted any of these links just yet——not with the level of detail you might want to before providing funds. Look things over before making any donations.
Find other abortion funds and resources via the National Network of Abortion Funds. (Please note that as of about 11pm EST on Monday, May 2, the site seems to be down. But keep checking back if you need more information.)
You can also, of course, support your local chapter of Planned Parenthood, but the independent providers and networks need your support right now.
If you have other clinics, funds, organizations, or individuals that need support right now, please feel free to reach out and let me know. I’ll update the page with links and resources as I find them or am sent them.
If you can’t donate, that’s absolutely fine. Use your words—make phone calls, tweet, send emails and/or letters. Make life hell. Contact your representatives and tell them how you feel. Find your representatives and senators here.
The number to Judge Samuel Alito's office (and the rest of SCOTUS) is 202-479-3000. The White House phone number is 202-456-1111. (Thanks to the Second Shelf for tweeting this information.)
If you need help finding an abortion provider or just need more information, see the Abortion Care Network, Shout Your Abortion, and Abortion Finder for more.
And for those curious, the books up for grabs:
The world is a dark place and America feels especially bleak tonight. Let’s help each other out as best we can right now.
