Aggressively Monday

Currently reading:

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I wanted to read Life of Pi, since I got the chance to see the Broadway show on Friday (thanks, Britt!), but apparently I hallucinated the fact that the book was on my shelves.

A little Damascus with a side of Pi.

Books finished this week: 1

★★★★☆

  • Where this book came from: Okay, so I guess technically this one isn’t from the Moratorium Library, since it was sent to me after winning a giveaway, and I didn’t count it as an addition, since I didn’t buy it myself. But I’m counting it towards the final reading count, SO THERE.

  • Why this book: Chuck Tingle and a truly demonic conversion camp.

  • Thoughts: The more I think about this book, the more I start to think that maybe I should’ve given it three stars. The story had a lot of promise, but there were just a lot of ways it fell flat, especially in the second half and the finale. There was so much build-up, and yet the final showdown felt incredibly rushed, with new characters and settings suddenly introduced in the final thirty pages. And then the book just . . . ended. But that said, I’m going to keep the four-star rating I gave the book on Goodreads immediately after finishing it. I was pretty invested in the main character and the mystery (even though what’s going on will be very clear to a reader if they read the book description), and whenever I had to put the book down or didn’t have time to read, I wanted to be reading. It was an entertaining read, if not executed as well as I would’ve liked.

Library updates:

Where to begin, with the last two weeks? Well, it’s Monday, instead of Sunday. That should tell you something.

Somehow, I finished a book, which feels momentous. I caught up on Succession (no spoilers) and am working on catching up on Barry. I went to Margaritaville twice in the span of a week and a half and found out that the view from the rooftop bar is absolutely fucking phenomenal. I saw Bruce Springsteen again (in New York, this time). Someone in the neighborhood has been smoking a metric fuck-ton of weed (I think it’s the nice weather), and I wish they’d stop. Tess (hi, Tess!) stayed with me for over a week and it was such a joy to have someone else around. We also got the chance to see a few phenomenal shows (and one very, very bad one), eat good food, and watch some more Tournament of Champions on Food Network, which is all I could really ask for.

Also got some pretty excellent cinnamon buns on Easter and gold-covered soft serve yesterday.

I always think catching up after an extra week (and a day) away from the Library, that I’ll have plenty to say. But these are the weeks that I always find the hardest to catch up with. I think it’s maybe because things, people, events, all seem so far away by the time I sit down on a second Sunday——or, in this case, Monday. I’ve probably already journaled about them, reflected on them, chatted or gossiped about them with friends, when it comes times to write it out for the Library. It’s a lot of time to pick over and recount, so it feels harder to do than a single week.

Since you mostly just needed to know about the Springsteen concert and the Broadway and the book I finished, I’ll end this very late, aggressively Monday post here. And, with luck, I’ll see you in six days.

Closing thoughts:

If you need an extra day to finish something, that’s absolutely fine. Take the extra day. It will get done, in your own time.

Total books read from the Moratorium Library: 33
